Good question! It's a quote I pulled from a talk I just attended, so it's not my theory, but it's one I thought was compelling. She didn't give examples, but I interpret it to mean that art should be a vehicle of learning & questioning for the artist as much as for the audience.

Failure to do that, failure on the part of the artist to learn and question through their art, means the art is more didactic and thus more limited, where art should aim to be open-ended. That's my interpretation/why it resonated with me, at least.

Original talk is Maryam Monalisa Gharavi's "Theory of Betryal," which I believe BPL might have video of on their website, and they have slides on their #NightOfPhilosophy app that might have more info from the source material.
