I'm partial to the AI apocalypse implied in Universal Paperclips: Mind-controlled and eventually left behind as useless for the monomaniacal purpose of making more paperclips.

I mean, the AI eventually consumes the entire world's resources and sends itself into space as an ever-expanding network of drones which eventually develop religion and start warring against each other all while consuming more and more of the universe's resources.
