And yes, random sampling could make it less IF the 1400 were self selected (for example, only ppl w symptoms in life sent their brains in)

the 1400 aren't self selected. 1400 football players have died since the study started. 111 sent their brains in. 110 had CTE

The self selection refers to those who sent their brains in (111). The total population is 1400.

Thats what I was explaining earlier - 111 sent their brains in. 110 had CTE. 1400 players total died during that period.

Therefore, it's wrong to say "99% of NFL players had CTE," but it's correct to say "at least 9% of NFL players had CTE".

Which, as the article says, is much higher than the general population's percentage with CTE. It's statistically significant.
