I have Some Thoughts™ on this headline. It is not a good headline. It is, in fact, a terrible headline.https://twitter.com/BBCWorld/status/889899739231256577 …

HOWEVER however, it is not "99% of football players have CTE," and headlines like that give ammo to those who want to call the study flawed.
-
tl;dr - Don't write sensationalist bullshit headlines when "Football players at least twice as likely to develop CTE" works and is accurate.

Do you think there's an "acceptable" CTE rate? Like, suppose the NFL got the CTE rate down to gen. pop.'s 5%, does that "end the crisis"?
-
Or is the crisis ultimately the fact that we're watching ppl damage their brains for our amusement, and no lowering of CTE rate helps?

It makes me wonder how this compares to other contact sports too. NFL is the poster child right now, but can't be the only concern.

No. You can't include the self-selected samples in the population, then compare to the control group (gen pop). Invalid.

Those other brains are also football brains, not general pop brains
