GAFFE GUFFAW GIFT G-vowel-F = HARD G
-
-
No. It's not. Because any word that isn't GI, GE, or GY is a hard G anyway. So there's literally one supporting example.
-
Meanwhile, I can give you the entire GI section of the dictionary that proves that it's a soft G with exception for words of Germanic origin

It's not a law. It doesn't exist in any grammatical rule textbooks or sources. G followed by I is almost always a soft g - that IS a rule
-
Your law has an exception. Mine does not. Which is stronger?

G -vowel- F is a pattern, but not a phonetic rule. Gi being soft g IS a rule and only one GI word doesn't fit. Because all other gi match.
-
Technically there's a bunch of GI exceptions. All of Germanic or Proto-Germanic origin.

Sure! GIF is the exception that proves the rule. Soft-G for the win (also - Geoff).
