I’m of two minds on this. Yeah, the obvious (and intelligent) choice is to just take the self-destruct tax, but there’s also something to be said about asking from a design perspective what the fuck is wrong with you that you created a potential system for space slavery.
You’re assuming a new player has the depth of knowledge to understand that they can escape (which clearly isn’t the case as the designers themselves are saying they will be issuing a warning in the future)

In addition, you still haven’t answered *why* this type of behavior should be incentivized from a design perspective. If something I created was used to create something even slavery-adjacent I would shut that shit down immediately, emergent gameplay be damned.

It is an extremely privileged viewpoint to be able to look at this series of events and have your thought be “git gud”.

I'm wondering how affordable "5% of ship cost" feels. Biased sample source, but looking up a fan-wiki on the topic has a ton of people in comments lamenting being unable to afford the down-payment on a loan the game offers you (much less the cost itself) Sounds deterring to me

If they don't have the 5% of ship costs, the only thing they lose is the free ship that was given to them by the griefers in the first place.
