I just got a piece of junk mail that concerns me. It’s the standard “YOU WERE A FORMER NFL PLAYER LET US GET YOU YOUR CTE MONEY BUY STONKS NOW,” but that’s not what’s concerning. What’s concerning is that it has my current address on it, and here’s why.

Now, I played a couple games in Florida during my NFL career, but I was living at a different address. This junk mail got sent to my current address, which is a house we moved into well after I left the league. This leaves me with one conclusion.

Either the NFL or the NFLPA is registered in the state of Florida in a way that leaves the ENTIRE playerbase’s personal address information available to any yahoo that knows how to look. This, uh, might be a problem. I’m a Z-list celebrity, at best. Others are not.

And note that it’s not a player’s personal address information from *when they played.* This is up to date, we know where you live right now information. Might be problematic!

Anyways, good times, and the answer to this particular little microcosm of our society’s lack of data hygiene isn’t getting rid of freedom of information acts, it’s taking better care of people’s private info. Looking at you, credit rating industry.
