Looks like GameStop’s buyback policy has evolved into a new, more aggressive form of taking people’s money. (the good news is every single hedge fund manager deserves to be hit by a bus so there’s really no downside here)

Agreed but I also think there is a downside. In those Reddit investors are a lot of people that can't afford to be gambling in the market. A lot of people are going to get hurt into this playing a game where they don't 100% understand the rules.

Upside, a lot of poor people have already put in $1,000-3,000 and gotten a ton of money. I don't see how the net result of this isn't hedge funds losing, and people winning. They sorta got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and the internet isn't letting them buy out cheap.

There is an upside, but I think a lot of them are relatively smart, potentially less risk adverse. They cashed out and will have a story about how they missed the height of the wave. A lot of people won't. And those who know what is going on will profit off that.

Not saying some Hedge Fund guys aren't going to get knocked around. And it will be deserved. But most of them will land on their feet. I'm genuinely worried for the guy who went on Reddit after this became 'mainstream' and invested money he doesn't have.

I mean, the type of guy who does that is just as likely to lose his money buying gold or boner pills. I don’t think the vehicle by which it happens really makes a difference.

Perhaps some and that's a fair comment. But I do think some honest people are going to be swept up in this mania, thinking they can make a quick buck when even this is going to be stacked against them. And those assholes we think are losing will bounce back.

Same thing happened with Beanie Babies, Bitcoin, and a hundred other things. You can’t keep gullible people from throwing their money away. Best you can do is make it as hard as possible for them to lose it.

Hey now! My retirement depends on my Beanie Babies and Mid 90's Upper Deck hockey cards. I get your point. I just know the next chapter is going to be stories the dupes that got in late and didn't know enough about how this works to get out. Which is not the way this should work
