I’m here all day to dunk on anyone stupid enough to carry water for an amoral corporation. The NFL doesn’t give a fuck about its *players*, why do you think they give a single shit about *you*, other than as another mark to be fleeced?

I’m frustrated. I’ve bought Sparkleponies and Otaku and followed you for years, but lately you’ve come across more sanctimonious than anything else and it’s discouraging. I don’t say this to start a debate or insult, just feeling down about it.

I am exceedingly angry at the amount of stupidity in this country and how blatantly it is negatively affecting its citizens. If me caring about other people comes across as sanctimonious, then I don’t know what to tell you.

I don’t necessarily believe caring about other people and watching football are mutually exclusive.

When did I say you should stop watching? I’m just calling out the cost. You make your own decisions in life.

This certainly doesn’t sound you support anyone watching. Again, I’m not trying to debate. It just seems like you are off the mark b/c some find the escape of sports to help them deal with the absurdity surrounding their day to day lives. I respect you, and I respect your views.pic.twitter.com/AiIlQSRNiG

Like I said, your moral choices are yours to make, and if what I’m pointing out makes you feel shitty, I’m not the root cause of those feelings. You gotta live with yourself at the end of the day, and you can always unfollow me.

And no, I don’t think sports should be happening in the middle of a pandemic because 400,000 people are FUCKING DEAD RIGHT NOW

And we agree that is tragic. I’m just saying people playing a game doesn’t move the needle on that number all too much.

The NFL is an outsized influence on literally millions of people’s views and lives, and they most definitely move the needle. My departure from the league was a case in point. Because I was an NFL player speaking up on gay rights, all of a sudden a ton of people took notice.

And I’m not claiming that I was more than a bit player in the marriage equality movement, but had I not been in the NFL, no one would have cared. The league could absolutely make a difference if it cared to do so. See also Colin Kaepernick.

I agree. The NFL provides a forum for others to speak out. That’s why I respected you so much for doing so. Stakes were high. But I also think it has a place for its entertainment value and ability to provide a necessary distraction to millions who need it.
