I work in a covid unit so I can definitely get behind that sentiment, but I also feel that there needed to be some touchstones of normalcy. For a lot of people, it's been sports for better or worse. But I agree that the bubble model should have been more widely used.

One of the reasons the NBA didn't go back to the bubble was the effect it had on some players and coaches.

And I don't think that sports was the reason many people didn't take the disease seriously. I think the blame for that falls squarely on a President and his party deciding to make basic public health measures like masks into just another divisive culture war issue.
