Are you legitimately unaware of how we got here? Like, the “centrist” policies that made Trump possible, many of which were enacted under Democratic presidents because they were worried about how the optics looked? Please tell me you didn’t just spew that out your ass.

Yes, Centrists created and emboldened white supremacy, police violence, and the rise of fascist Nationalism by not kicking ass enough. It wasn't the dedicated and effective propaganda effort spoon fed for 60+ years by deliberate bad actors. But messaging doesn't matter, I guess.

Can't both of these things be true?

They ARE both true. But this implacable, being right is enough attitude has lost more elections than it's won WHILE BEING RIGHT in my lifetime, and I'm tired of losing for pride. Or trying to pretend half the country will agree with my bad slogan if I just stick by it harder.

Oh for fucks sake, the entire reason Democrats don’t win is because THEY DON’T FUCKING FIGHT HARD ENOUGH FOR UNPOPULAR POSITIONS THANK YOU FOR PROVING MY POINT

WE HAVE TO WIN. THEN MOVE. THEN WIN AGAIN. THEN MOVE BIGGER. THEN WIN AGAIN! THEN MOVE! But we keep losing midterms because self-righteous pride about what we SHOULD do pulls the chair out from under our shitty Centrists so we can never afford a fucking Progressive nationally.

... in Progressive districts they represent well? Yeah. I think the better comparison is: I guess being the better person with military credentials and on the right side of every issue is why Amy McGrath beat actual threat to Democracy Mitch McConnell.... Oh.

I guess being right is why Colin Kaepernick is still QB of the 49ers. And how Bobby Kennedy became President. And how Dr. King beat racism forever. And how you retired a Viking. Oh, did none of that happen? Turns out, Capitalism, ignorance and white supremacy are a helluva drug.

What the fuck are you even arguing? That if MLK had used different words he wouldn’t have been shot? If Colin Kaepernick had taken a knee differently he would still be employed? That if I found a way to say “gay marriage” differently I wouldn’t have been fired?

You don’t stand up for the right thing because the message is focus tested, you stand up because it’s the right thing to do. What the fucking hell.

Being. Right. Isn't. Enough. If. You. Can't Change. Minds. But you go on and keep insisting we can't change a single syllable of a stupid slogan, even if it means losing because something something courage of your convictions. You'll be fine either way.

You wanna compare records on changing minds you be my fucking guest. I wrote a whole chapter in my first book about people who said I shouldn’t have used swearwords. Last time I checked gay marriage is still legal in Minnesota.
