So here’s the thing with NFL level punting/kicking. Gostkowski missed that FG because he stepped an *inch* too close to the ball, which caused his foot to be traveling just enough to the right as he swung through (instead of straight to the target) to push it right. An inch.

Please do. It's a underreported thing in football. No one really talks about it

Have you read How To? (There’s a section in it about that.)
-
I haven’t, I really need to (read all of the online comics). Any chance you can post a picture so I can get an overview?

I’ve never thought about it like that, but that’s just like a golf swing, where setting up an inch too close can cause significant slice/hook.

Imagine having to hit a golf ball at a run and we start to see how precise these guys need to be

There's an

I've actually got the book that Mark Moseley, Rick Danimeier and Dave Jennings collaborated on about the art of kicking.
-
I still have that book as well, but Moseley didn't write a chapter. It was Dave Jennings on Punting, Matt Bahr on Soccer Style Kicking and Rick Danmeier on Straight-On Kicking.
