Quick question for all of you - my younger daughter really likes drawing and is putting in enough time that I think she’s serious about it. Looking to get her a Wacom tablet for her birthday - any suggestions?

The intuos S has been sounding nice for a low-cost choice. One thing to keep in mind is usage style. A drawing tablet is very good for you if you have desk space to put it on; she can sit up and look straight ahead at her monitor as she works, reducing neck strain.

If you use apple products, the route of iPad and Apple Pencil with a program like Clip Studio Paint (single purchase version for desktop, fair price subscription for mobile/tablets) is honestly also hella powerful. There you’ll be drawing on your screen, like fancy cintiqs.

There’s more chance of neck pain there, obviously, if she gets into a habit of curling over it while she works, but if she’s got a good stand, she can prop it up like painting on an easel. A plus w/ A Pencil is that it would work with any other devices you may have too.

Tbh I usually prefer using my intuos4 because then my hand isn’t in the way of what I’m doing, and once she gets practice, she’ll develop a feel of where her hand is moving on the tablet vs what she sees in the screen. A bit more learning curve than APencil.

Obvs with an APencil route, she’d have more freedom to go places with it. Pluses and minuses to each. As far as I know, the intuos s is now storing the extra pen nibs inside the pen itself? Previous models came with them stored inside the back of the tablet and in the pen holder

Soooo many artists go years without knowing they had extra nibs included lol Sorry I’m really rambly today no disjointed, I had a patellar tendon graft today and *waggles fingers* oof It’s looking like the intuos comes with a 2y desktop CSP license, too, which is rad.

Ex: first is all mobile CSP w/ an Apple Pencil, the second had the bulk of the background started w/ my Intuos 4 in Paint Tool Sai 2 before finishing it out on the iPad. (A lot of art has moved to my iPad b/c I can sit with the little kiddo anywhere and work, that mobile perk)pic.twitter.com/nkPmZ27QO5
