That was an interesting scheme by Cincinnati on the punt with their left side gunner. Putting him in motion like that makes it a lot harder for the double team to jam him up, and starting out way wide means he’ll likely end up over the ball after releasing downfield.
Generally your protection guys are fast backup linebackers, safeties, running backs, and maaaaaybe a tight end or two. They’re not great at clearing a hole, so you really have to make sure you know which gaps the rushers are going to hit, otherwise you’re going nowhere.

Understandable but the return team is also not using the regular defensive starters. Plus you have the element of surprise. I guess its asking a lot to put the game in the hands of special teamers but Im trying to think of another situation with such a numeric inbalance

Oh don’t get me wrong, it’s a fantastic call if you can catch them showing a particular tendency, it’s just if you don’t the downside is prettttttttty bad
