I’ve been seeing this Rex Chapman account retweeted a bunch over the past couple weeks and it looks like the worst sort of clout chasing repost bullshit ever.

What kind of clout is he chasing? He’s already a famous guy.

I am too (for a given value of famous) and I don’t steal content

Is it stealing if you reference the original author of the tweet? Honest question. I don’t even know why I’m asking. I don’t really give a shit that much. I just never thought him to be malicious. It’s not like he’s Fat Jewish or anything.

It is if it’s not you referencing them but Twitter’s inbuilt algorithms o avoid copyright infringement instead!

Since he knows his tweets will ultimately get correct attribution maybe he feels he doesn’t need to add it.

If he gives them a shout out does he have to pay them? I’m confused.

Quick homework assignment. I want you to go through his feed and see how many responses/RTs are from verified accounts versus non-verified (and if the non-verified are the same account). Then we can talk about clout chasing.

Secondary assignment - how many retweets are verified accounts responding to a stolen video posted by the Chapman account?
