If an NFL quality punter wanted to retrain to be a kicker, could it be done? Is it likely he’d be able to make an NFL team as a kicker?

Probably, but I don’t know why you’d want to spend the time and effort when you could make it as a punter. Most guys make that decision in college and focus either on one entirely or one over the other. I did both in high school and shifted to just punting in college.

I meant it as a theoretical question, trying to understand how different the skill sets were. For example, many outfield soccer players change positions over their career. But even Neuer probably couldn’t retrain as an outfield player and make it at that level.

Gotcha. I’d say punter to kicker is probably like shortstop to second baseman. They’re similar skill sets but the technical bits aren’t the same.
