So let me get this right. You think that, in a society where when something is created, the creator loses all rights to profit from what they’ve made, you think in THAT society that anyone other than the independently wealthy are going to be able to create things?
Jesus fucking Christ in a wheelbarrow, it’s NOT A FUCKING BINARY YOU DUMBFUCK WILLFULLY OBTUSE ASSHOLE. The IA was just fine lending books under established law that had a mechanism to make sure creators got compensated. They violated that law when they violated creators’ rights

CDL isn't established law either. The only reason you think it's established law is because publishers couldn't get away with crushing it.
-
All of the things you think of as reasonable exceptions to copyright either were uses that pre-existed copyright or were things that people did and it was going to be too unpopular to punish them for.

Authors WANT libraries to exist. No one is arguing your straw man. What authors also want is FOOD, and HEALTH INSURANCE, and RENT, and that’s what the IA’s position would take away. Goddamn.

I WANT the IA to lend books, but I want them to do it in a way that makes sure people can continue writing those books in the future because it is a viable career. THAT’S where the debate is.
