Those "rights" aren't publishers' to take away from libraries. Libraries have a greater right to lend books than publishers and authors have to stop them.
Oh I can’t wait to see how many books get written when authors get paid a $40 one time fee. Remember how I said you’d turn the domain of art into the sole playground of the rich? Because that’s what you’re doing.

Ah, so the problem is not that this library did not pay, but they did not pay enough. How much is the right amount?

I mean, this whole thing is so obvious to you that it's a self-evident moral truth, so certainly you know the correct amount a library should pay to do this.

And until we live in magical space communism, people need to get paid for their work. Hell, I could easily write books and release them for free. You know why I don’t? Because it’s not fair for other people who don’t have access to my resources and rely on writing to survive.

Can you imagine how much money Amazon, eBay, other online book retailers must be making off of the sale and continuous resale of used books? And the thriving secondhand book shop market? The sale of new books must be a minority of total book sales compared to used books, nowadays
