I just finished your book Otaku, and loved it, especially the first half. The entire time I was reading it I was thinking it was written by a POC woman, I never looked at the about the author until the end. I have tons of questions if you have time 1/3

Did you consult any POC, women or POC women while writing? Did you ever feel that your own life perspective and the one you displayed were at conflict? Did you receive any nonplus publicity because of your own identity versus the characters? 2/3

I consulted both women and POC women while writing the book because I knew that it wouldn’t be accurate otherwise (and their help was invaluable). My life perspective obviously isn’t the same as Ash’s, but I modeled her drive and will to win off my experience in pro sports.

I haven’t received any negativity so far from me being a white man writing about a black woman, hopefully due to the effort I put in making sure Ash’s life and experiences were as legitimate as possible.
