They’re seeing spikes because they raised testing 4-fold. Only a 10% increase while administering that many more tests is a decrease. Simple math there.

That’s not right, the number of tests you give doesn’t raise or lower the number of individuals who are infected, it just gives you a better idea the accuracy of the total number infected. (Edited tweet for grammar lol) Ex:

Having 10,000 infected poeple, in a population of 10M. The probability of having someone test positive test positive is 0.1%, that doesn’t change if you give 1,000 tests of 4,000 tests. But it does make identification of infected persons much faster.

So even if they scale up testing, it doesn’t change the number of infected, so you won’t necessarily see a 4x increasing in infections, becuse the number of infected doesn’t change, your just identifying the same number of individuals faster.

It might just be a minor spike, but it looks like they have been trending steadily upward. This is why a rolling 7-day average can mask the overall trend. I am hoping it isn't a trend that will continue, but the data seems to show an increase.
