Most insurance is tied to being employed (i.e. the employer pays for a policy to cover their employees). If you become unemployed, you lose your health insurance.

Got it. Yes, we have that here too to cover stuff like dental, medicine, elective surgeries, medical equipment, massaged etc. But since US is based on private healthcare, I'll assume even a hospital visit if you suspect Covid-19 is charged out of pocket? Like you get a bill?

I guess the bottom line question is if you get covid and have to stay in the hospital on a ventilator, you have to pay for that if you don't have health insurance from your job or are unemployed?
