I have never played a game with a battle system so relentlessly and needlessly hostile towards the player as FFVII remake.
Finally, the AI does little to no thinking on its own, and switching between characters mid battle is not only disorienting, but can also draw enemy attention to a healer precisely when you don’t want. Stuff like Aeris’ Arcane Ward mean characters have to be manually positioned.

All in all, if you’re going to make me play an active battle system (ala Souls/Nioh), it better behave like an active battle system. FFVII remake does not, it takes away from what is otherwise a very good game, and it’s a garbage trend that Squeenix has been following for years.

Appreciate the analysis, thanks! Agree with you on some points (raise-cycling, undodgable attacks), disagree on others (verticality (Cloud levitates!), grapples (I didn't mind being prompted to change characters), positioning). Hope you find another game you enjoy more!
