I have never played a game with a battle system so relentlessly and needlessly hostile towards the player as FFVII remake.
Having a vertical element when the primary character has no ranged element is also a terrible choice, as is letting vertical enemies leave the field of combat (looking at you, heli-arm Shinra soldiers). Tied to this is being unable to generate ATB if enemies aren’t attackable.

Magic and items are already gated behind a resource element (MP/stock). Gating them behind ATB is needlessly punishing and feels like shit, especially if you get into a situation where a character dies and you can’t keep up with raises/healing.

Stuns/grapples are entirely too long and take away player agency in a way that feels incredibly upsetting, especially since you can take damage during them. A particular offender is sleep - in every other FF, sleep is broken on taking damage. This one doesn’t.
