Ignoring that the U.S. would have likely been dragged into the war regardless of who won the election: No, he didn't "fight fascism." Militaries did. Which demonstrates quite neatly that armed resistance fascism defeats fascism, not voting. That can happen with or without votes.

And this comparison also doesn't apply to a scenario where the fascism in question is in your own country. In which case, it would probably look more like the cells of armed rebellion in Vichy France.
