This is from WHO, but anybody care to qualify this with more information? We've long held that it's 2% mortality, but 3.4% would be a more significant jump. (I assume that jump is concentrated more in older or compromised populations.)https://twitter.com/WHO/status/1234872254883909642 …

I think a big part is that we still haven’t pinned down how many infected there are. 20,000 with 600 dead is way different than 60,000 with 600 dead.

The US is sadly complicating that with low testing and bad info, as yet.

With the exception of a few hundred people, if you live in the US, you have no idea if you have the virus or not, and currently no way of finding out. It's a travesty.

Yes, it's a bit horrifying. Especially with a lot of travel -- er, not just me, which is true, but spring break and lots of cons and trade shows and vacations.

I thought it would be especially bad just because so few people in the US can afford to take time off work or go to the doctor. But the fact that even if they do, it's impossible to know if they're spreading the disease or not, is just shocking.

Yes, and having information become harder to access rather than easier makes it seem like... do they know it's worse, and they're just hoping not to spook the market? Because in this kinda situation, the truth will definitely out.

I think the whole country should take a time out, everyone agree to stay home for two weeks. Yes, society would grind to a halt, but I’m increasingly convinced every alternative is Walking Dead territory.

In a rational world, that’s what we’d do for sure! <refrains from further comment>
