Same. I got about halfway through the storm and ran out of coal - I should have either stockpiled more or made a factory sooner to have more automatons working my mines.

It's pretty forgiving on normal difficulty, you can probably still save it without save scumming too much
-
I played my first time on it straight through and only had the autosave so I was screwed. (That really speaks well of their pacing IMHO - it's possible to run at least the first scenario in a day if you make liberal use of the fast-forward buttons.)

I played "This War of Mine" made by the same company ...it was quite interesting

I remember hearing really good things about that one

Its really challenging but it's on of the best city building survival RTS games I've ever played
-
I called it a survival city builder to a friend and they were like "a what now?", but that's really the only way to describe it. And it's honestly the best flavor/lore I've ever seen in a city planner or resource management type game.

Thought it would have more replay value but couldn't get back into it once I eventually pushed through the storm.
-
It's kind of Sim City in that respect (especially in Endless modes) - "OK, I beat the scenario / built my city. I guess I'm done now?" The other scenarios have some interesting challenges too tho - I was playing Fall of Winterhome a couple of nights ago.
