I’m Ok w the refs reversing it, but rules are rules & he didn’t take a knee.

the rules also say that the play is dead when a player is giving himself up, which the receiver did with multiple actions (arm bar, talking to Corrente before tossing him the ball)

Pretty sure I've seen them blow it dead before the ball is even out of the endzone when the returner gives that signal. If the ball landed funny and didn't clear the endzone, would it be live?

That was another rule change - as soon as the ball touches the turf of the end zone on an untouched kickoff, it's dead and a touchback. Not sure if that applies to a muffed kickoff.

Thanks, I'd wondered about it. I never really noticed the "arm bar" until they moved the kickoffs up, because kicking it through the endzone was so much rarer. I didn't know if it was kind of like a fair catch -- "Hey, we'll take the touchback" or something.

It's not an official fair catch; mostly a signal to teammates that they aren't taking it out. That being said, if that guy did the arm bar and then started running with the ball, play would definitely continue. That was only one of the things that contributed to giving himself up

Yeah for sure, you can’t just wave and then try to run it, ball’s live there. It’s because he also clearly was tossing it to the ref and making no attempt to run it.

Yeah - when I mentioned multiple actions earlier in giving himself up, I meant that to be cumulative. I don't think either one of those on its own would necessarily mean he was giving himself up.
