Vietnam probably was the point where you started seeing yourselves as “the bad guys”, cause that had been established way earlier for a lot of people around the globe

That’s a fair point, but also bear in mind I was born in 1981, and we were taught that WWII was us as supermen, the Korean War wasn’t really mentioned, and the Vietnam war was maybe we made a small oopsie somewhere but it doesn’t really matter it’s no biggie.

Then the first Iraq war was when I was 9, the second when I was in college, and every step along that way the people around me were like “well, that’s a thing, go America!”, and you have a small glimpse at the daily unthinking propaganda American millennials saw daily.

That’s not to excuse anything the US has done, because there’s a lot to answer for, but *man* is the myth of American Exceptionalism an ingrained thing
