Freshmen were asking me all week if I would show them how far I could kick a field goal. Told them I’d hit a couple today - thumped a couple from closer in, then tried a sixty yarder. Put it half a foot outside the left upright with enough distance to clear from sixty-two.
I think that actually would change things, and make it possible for one guy to do both. Of the three motions, kickoffs are by far the most taxing on your body, and most teams will limit their guy to at most ten full speed reps during a week of practice.

Taking those out would make it feasible from a pure body mechanics standpoint, but it would still be difficult to be 99% at each motion. Definitely a chance, though.

If a punter could kick at 90% (or kicker punt at 90%) of average replacement player, with limited reps to avoid leg death, would that be enough for a GM to pull the trigger? In other words, is the practice that necessary, is it that tough, or is having them at 99 too good?
