@ChrisWarcraft do you still talk kicking at all? My son is a HS kicker, and im looking for some advice (for me)
Steps back - generally 2-3 back, 1-2 over. When approaching the ball, he should take a 6” jab with his plant foot, then be able to cover half the distance to the ball with his kicking foot, then land balanced on his plant foot with it pointed at his target and even with the ball.

Making contact - he should be hitting it in the laces area of his cleat with the foot turned slightly parallel to the ground. Make sure the plant leg knee is bent so the kicking foot can get underneath the ball to lift it.
-
Followthrough - This is where most people mess up. Kicking foot needs to finish through towards the target, along with his hips. The ball goes where your hips are facing, and you have to fight the natural motion of swiveling your hips side to side.
