Parents - please volunteer to coach for youth soccer leagues so that way we don’t end up with ten kids on a team because trying to figure out those substitutions is THE WORST.

I'm in my third year and I think this is the year they break me, especially because I REALLY have no idea on how to coach soccer

Handy coaching tips for youngins: Focus on POSSESSION as primary goal (if we have the ball, the other team can’t score) We keep POSSESSION through VISION (seeing the field) and MOVEMENT (moving to empty space) We win by passing more than the other team, maintaining POSSESSION

You’re not concerned about the score at this age, you’re focused on developing fundamentals that they can build off of. Expect to lose most games the first half of the year. Watch as they develop and grow the second half. Make sure parents know to cheer for passes, not big kicks.

Do all of your yelling and coaching during practice. During the game, shut up and let them play, so they can learn to think for themselves. Make sure parents know this as well.
