I know they haven’t reached the NFL yet, but aren’t aussy style kicks designed to maximize bounces?

They are, but there’s still an element of randomness due to the shape of the ball. It’s almost impossible to guarantee the ball will bounce an exact direction (I found one way, but it is incredibly hard to execute consistently, so it’s really not worth practicing).

And most punters these days in the NFL use the Aussie style kick for punts inside the 50 where they’re trying to pin people back deep. Darren Bennett introduced it back in the 90’s when he played for the Chargers.
