You know, for an organization that depends on volunteers, AYSO certainly doesn’t make it easy to be a volunteer.

They scheduled their mandatory coach and referee training at the same time - I finish the coach training (only 2.5 hours), ask if I can do the referee training (which is all day). “Oh, we’ve already covered fouls and advantage, it won’t count if you’re here for the rest.”

Because someone who’s been playing soccer literally their entire life doesn’t know what fouls and advantage are, and how they should be called. Give me a fucking break.

Yeah I played AYSO as a kid for about four years, then my parents moved me to club soccer. It’s always been a mess.

Husband’s team lost a game once because the ref blew the whistle, his team stopped, other team scored on an empty goal, and the ref shrugged and counted it. That was 20 years ago and he’s still mad.
