They scheduled their mandatory coach and referee training at the same time - I finish the coach training (only 2.5 hours), ask if I can do the referee training (which is all day). “Oh, we’ve already covered fouls and advantage, it won’t count if you’re here for the rest.”

Because someone who’s been playing soccer literally their entire life doesn’t know what fouls and advantage are, and how they should be called. Give me a fucking break.

“When are the other training sessions that aren’t in the equivalent of Kansas?” “Oh, the other close regions are doing their training today too. Good luck!” And they fucking wonder why they never have enough refs for U12 and above.

My neighbor coaches our daughters for our city league, and it has the same level of dysfunction. He has three kids, he voluntarily coaches two of them, and all he asks is if they can practice on the same day so he isn’t at the park every day after work.

It eventually happened after a ton of push back, but they really should be more accommodating than you get to save $50 on your kids fees if you coach.

Yeah, I wanted to ref for my nephew's league because they had to cancel games due to the lack of refs. They wanted me to drive 3 hours to go to a class because the local training didn't have enough people. Only 5 people were signed up for the local, 11 were told to travel.
