Good news - My HMO general practitioner remembered who I was from a previous visit! Bad news - He’s prescribing four weeks of physical therapy for a torn labrum before I can be referred to an orthopedic specialist.

Is that a reviewable call?

Not on my wife’s healthcare plan

Ugh. I’m 13 weeks from my initial shoulder injury. It was a bad dislocation w/a fractured humerus. I managed to have a partial tear of everything but the labrum. Fortunately, the Hospital for Special Surgery is in my neighborhood, & covered by my insurance.

Ouch, that sounds terrible

Ugh. As a physical therapist I would be super frustrated to get that referral. Cause we know that needs surgery. The PT is probably just gonna try to strengthen the muscles around the joint, but it won’t do much.
-
Oh I know, and I fully plan on explaining the situation to them. I’ve been through a lot more PT than the average person

Talk to the physical therapist. When he realized that nothing was going to help my L5S1, he scheduled the required 4 visits 4 days in a row. I was done in a week and got my surgery a lot faster.

I'm guessing that the doctor wants to spare you (and every medical office involved) 700 pages of paperwork. No PT, the insurance fights tooth and nail to deny coverage.
-
Yeah that’s what I figured, which is why I didn’t press him on it
