The trick is, the weaknesses of health and shields don't matter. You CAN optimize to kill enemies that don't have shields or armor (mostly Infested), but they tend to die quickly until you reach level 100+.

Similarly, Corpus, with their shields, aren't tough to kill, but any weakness other than toxic only gets a noticeable benefit against half of their health bar.

Enemies don't get hard to kill until they have armor. However, if all four members of your group have Corrosive Projection - the best aura mod in the game by a huge margin - then enemy armor is completely negated except on a select handful of bosses.pic.twitter.com/lwgtry4gBy

If you play solo or in pick-up groups, you can't count on negating armor. And, in a select few cases, you actually don't want to.

Normal elemental weaknesses just increase or decrease that element's damage by the % amount. Cloned flesh just takes +75% damage from viral damage, it's very straightforward.

However, armor's weaknesses are applied twice. If a unit has ferrite armor, which is "+75%" weak to corrosive damage, then not only is corrosive damage increased by 75%, but the armor value is also reduced by 75% when applying that damage.

Corrosive damage blows away armored enemies, which are the toughest enemies in the game, while cutting into their source of effective HP scaling. (Also the tougher infested units are somewhat weak to it.) That's why it's the correct lazy choice.

(Corrosive Projection is unrelated to corrosive damage, btw.)

Bosses tend to have alloy armor, which is weak to radiation. Usually a shitload of it. However, if you negate all of that armor, you lose the sweet +75% damage you get for exploiting the armor's elemental weakness.

So, when hunting very tough bosses like eidolons, you aim to negate almost all but not all of their armor with Corrosive Projection, then hit them in their radiation hole for massive damage. Rad damage is why minmaxed players one-shot eidolon joints while everyone else flails.

Hitting someone in the radiation hole is a felony in several states.
