No, this is what a far right journalist trying to make headlines looks like. Should Dobbs’ idea go forward? That’s up to debate. Is Dobbs an idiot? Probably. But it’s not fascism to ask a question. Please stop with the over the top rhetoric. I ask this from both sides when I can.

My man, fascism doesn’t start with death camps. It starts with “asking the question” and not getting called on it.

You’re not wrong, Chris. You’ve been a huge advocate for civil liberties as long as I’ve known your name as a Vikings punter (the only Vikings punter I know by name btw). But sometimes I think we throw words around and they start losing meaning, which actually helps the bad peeps

This is textbook fascism though. It’s the normalizing of the not-normal. It’s what’s been happening in this country for the past three years and it’s not going to stop anytime soon if we defend the fascists.

I’m really not trying to be rude Chris, but how exactly is having a census ask about legal citizenship to the nation they reside in considered fascist? I know it could lead to deportation, but wouldn’t that be a known risk of illegal entry to any country, not just the US?

A) because it violates the Consti-fucking-tution, specifically the Enumeration Clause, and B) Studies show including a citizenship question leads to underreporting by non-citizens which leads to less resources allocated to vulnerable communities than needed.

But there are several policies that the left adorns/calls for that violate the constitution. That doesn’t necessarily make them fascist in nature. But the word gets thrown around like crazy nowadays in a wrongful matter.

Is trump a racist? Maybe; I’m not in his head so I can’t know for sure (also I try to focus more on local politics rather than national). But again, that doesn’t automatically make him fascist if he is.

One of the key tenets of fascism is discriminating against “undesirables” using government power. Don’t just take my word for it, though, go ask some other historians.

First I want to thank you for a civil discussion; it’s been a while since I’ve had a political one, let alone on Twitter. Second, would someone crossing the border illegally not be considered an “undesirable”? Whichever country it was, mind you.

So here’s the thing - it’s actually legal to come to the US to request asylum. What this administration is doing is shutting down the crossings where people could legitimately make an asylum claim so they have no choice but to cross elsewhere. Then they claim they’re “illegal.”
