To clarify why the Battle of Winterfell made me so irate - it’s not that mistakes shouldn’t happen. Mistakes are fine. Humans are gonna human. It’s that they weren’t even mistakes, it was such a profound ignorance of how sieges work that it implied no one had ever been in one.

issue was no one had ever been in a siege with the undead. Like the Calvary charge - psychological impact of charging horses is lost on the dead. Humans fucking freak and break. The dead just stand there and then kill you.

Even if that was the reasoning, that’s for heavy cav, and you do it when the infantry are already stuck in. Dothraki are light cav/skirmishers. Using them as heavy cav is it’s own special brand of stupid that again makes my point.
