@jon_bois Can you find this punt and give us the score on your index please?

it looks like the score for that punt was only a 7.71 (very low base score from being in home territory + being on 4th and 13)

I calculated it at an even lower 3.44. 1 (field position) x 0.2 (distance for a first down), x 3 (down by 9 or more) x 5.74 (28 minutes, or 1,680 seconds, into the second half)

yeah you're right; i accidentally typed in 38 minutes instead of 28, but in either case it's a shame these kinds of edge cases weren't reflected properly in the surrender index

I don't know how you account for it without making the formula too complicated. The funny thing is that, like many of the saddest punts, the Vikings weren't really punished. Yeah, they lost the game, but they won the division and the loss had no affect on their playoff seed.

Howe’s Brad Childress one play away from going to a Super Bowl. My god. That team annoyed me so much because he so clearly was incompetent yet they kept winning.

Looking at it from another angle, all that winning simply implies that we don't understand WHY he was competent. It's like saying Michael Johnson was an incompetent running. His technique was "wrong" but he held a bunch of world records.

He’s never had another job for a reason. He was bad.
