The math is there, and seems to make sense, but unless we figure out a way to step outside the universe, we simply cannot use the tools within the universe to prove it in a traditional way. I don't think that invalidates the ideas at all.

Now I'll grant you that certain models very much are a "let's throw stuff at the chalkboard and maybe some of it sticks," but there are very concrete models of what we currently know within the quantum realm that don't invalidate some of the stranger aspects.

And I think to dismiss the entirety of quantum mechanics simply because parts are not traditionally provable via empirical testing is an incredibly egotistical view that assumes if we can't sense something, then it can't exist.

Not “if we can’t sense something, then it can’t exist” — but “if we can’t sense something, hold off on your fucking claims until we can, fantasist”

Okay, I really do understand; you're concerned about the pie in the sky theories that can consume "brainshare" (and grant money) from possible avenues that contribute more to "actually proving how things works". However, Chris' point is that theory that works...

...at least in terms of the various models and what CAN be observed; the math backs it up; but we're not quite to a point where we CAN prove it. One of the more un-nerving possibilities I've had to grapple with is the idea that it make require cybernetic augmentation...

...in order TO comprehend the information that would allow us to understand the data. Even worse, the idea that the heart of quantum mechanics may produce conflicting results... by design. Okay, I think I may need to read up on the latest thinking. Any suggestions?

I mean, I just wander down the wiki rabbit hole every week or so, not sure I can direct you to an authoritative source. I'm more of the mindset that we're the product of billions of years of evolution, and if comprehending dark matter mattered, we'd comprehend it by now.

Even now there might be diaphonous creatures floating in the gulfs between stars wondering what makes up the remaining 4% of the universe they can't detect. Life is weird.

I think Dee is worried about hucksters trying to say that those creatures exist without a doubt, and if you provide your credit card number... Nothing new, though I doubt we'll ever see the horrors produced by victorian era "science". Radium toothpaste & electric hair growing?
