Gonna have to disagree here. You're siding with billionaires in a fight against a millionaire. Pay the man what his market value is worth, and he won't be away from the team.

I'm looking at this ONLY from his side. He turned his back on $14M this year, more money than any other runner will earn this year. In doing so, he's gained no leverage, and won't accrue a year of service if he doesn't show. It's baffling.

Counterpoint - He earns $14million this year, gets injured, never plays again, instead of getting a $50million contract with $16million guaranteed over four years (which is about what he's worth and would likely pay out close to $30million assuming normal wear and tear).

Counter-counterpoint: A) He already rejected a 5-year, $60M offer (last year) and a 5-year $60M with $30M guaranteed (this year). B) He can buy insurance against a career-ending injury. C) Career-ending injuries are increasingly rare. ACLs are just a speed bump now.

A) I've got no argument against B) Insurance for full body coverage is RIDICULOUSLY expensive C) Rehab is never 100% guaranteed to get you back to where you were before
