@badastronomer Hey, doing some research for a sci-fi thing I'm writing, and was wondering if you wouldn't mind a question? If so:
What would happen to a main sequence star, say 1.2 solar masses, if 1/3 of its mass just flat out disappeared in a sphere centered around its center?
Likely no remnant either, right? Just explosion and then *poof*?

No, you’d have something. The energy from the hyper-accelerated fusion goes in as well as out causing compression at the core. You’d have a very low mass dwarf/neutron star or black hole, depending on math and/or story need.
