It’s very heavy, but it’s also the only fantasy stuff I’ve read thanks to my brother. Should I cop those top five to get some good reading? I’m normally history, military, and religion.

You'd actually probably really enjoy the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson then. It's looooooong, and intricate, but if you like Meiville you'll probably like that. Pratchett is more satire/irreverence, Weber is space opera sci-fi, Modesitt is ethics/morality

If you're doing Malazan, I'd recommend starting with just the first book to see if it's your thing. I'm not kidding when I say it's long, the series is ten books and each clocks in around 1k pages.
