I think this might be a key misunderstanding. I'm not saying that human nature is immutable. I'm saying that it is historically *consistent*, absent the will to recognize and change that behavior.
My personal definition of "history" is "access to the knowledge of those who came before you," for what it's worth.

And granted, yes, that was likely less widespread in the days before the printing press (not to mention the internet), but the fact remains that even in the Roman empire they were referencing accounts of those who came before.
