You are making ideological assertions about the nature of human behavior that aren't based in empirical study, that we don't even know if they can be based in empirical study

Ancient Egypt - Originally prospered due to adaptation to conditions along the Nile, stratified due to pharaohs accumulating resources (local tribe), collapsed. Short term gain led to long-term downfall.

Rome - Originally prospered due to exploitation of position on the Tiber, stratified due to emperors/senators accumulating resources (local tribe), collapsed. Short term gain led to long-term downfall.

2200-2150 BC, 1800-1700 BC, and 1100-1000 BC would be the main ones (also fitting my personal observation that most empires last around 300ish years or so, so we're in for a treat).

the downfall of an empire that persisted in one form or another from 2200 BC to 1200 AD was caused by the accumulation of resources by the elites of Republican Rome. I see.

"One form or another" is the key phrase there. Rome was not a homogeneous entity. There was Monarchical Rome, Republican Rome, pre-Imperial Rome, Imperial Rome, and post-Imperial Rome, all with distinct forms of government and, yes, all were brought down by short term concerns.

can i ask about your definition of "brought down"? in a sense yes, each of those organizational hierarchies collapsed over time, but i think Jay has a good point about those distinctions potentially meaning less than the more general existence of a Roman society

Ceased to exist as a meaningful polity. Rome as a monarchy functioned differently than Rome as a republic which functioned differently than Rome as an empire, etc. Any time the central core of how you define how society operates changes, that's important.
