Sorry, was at soccer practice for the kids. I would say that that proves my initial point - there was no evil genius or Machiavellian mastermind necessary, just dumb people doing dumb things (that historically had likely outcomes)

Not really. Initial tweet was how most conflicts result from dumb people doing dumb things. The followup was some examples (which you can argue are correct or incorrect as you wish, but I'm of the opinion that the evidence comes down in favor of my position)

Any solid dive into the historical record shows multiple occasions of actions for short term gains, with little to no regard as to the long term consequences (and not just militarily speaking)
