Nah, on a goal kick (or any sort of free kick) you want to play a short pass so that way you maintain possession. Blasting it up-field looks neat, but it's a terrible way to play soccer. It's also the most widely coached way to play soccer in America, which explains a lot.https://twitter.com/AdamLikesBeer/status/1032001153985339394 …

hah, i had no idea that route-one was the coaching style of choice over there, seems bizarre with south american leagues relatively close by.

There's a reason we didn't make the most recent World Cup :/

kinda left field, but do you think the introduction of more experienced international players coming to the MLS has made a difference at all? Because it seemed like better football was being played in the League, but it didn't really play out for the National team.

Ehh, not a lot, since most of what you learn is from how you're taught growing up. If the US wants to be consistently good, they need to address youth soccer a lot more intensively

cheers for the insight! We have similar issues here in NZ, although we're much more more isolated as well which doesn't help :D

Yeah, I think that's the biggest indictment of US soccer, in that we have such a vast talent pool to draw from, we should be much better than we are. Coaching makes a big difference
