One of the things that absolutely drove me nuts about the NFL was the idea that you had to dedicate your entire waking life to football in order to be good. Coaches sleeping at the facility, players ignoring their family for tape. You don't, actually. Work smarter, not harder.

Is that something pushed by coaching staffs? I remember when KC drafted Chris Conley and one of the knocks on him was that he made Star Wars movies. Like “how dare he have another interest?”

It is. They view it as a crime if you aren't spending every waking moment thinking about football. They're also mostly idiots.

Could a HC change that culture or would it need come from a team president or owner? I could see a coach suggesting it but then having things turn quick if even one minor thing goes wrong.
