Is this too much of a smark opinion? Are most players capable of seeing the snowball form and estimating its inevitability before it tips down the hill?

Personally, I can usually tell around midgame if I'm going to win or not. Then it's just a matter of slogging through.

Which is unfortunate because most of the "cool" stuff is gated behind endgame content, but by the time you unlock it you don't really need it.

Yeah, I feel you on that. It's like, I've locked down my chokepoints, the fleets are assembled, and now it's just a matter of if I want to spend the time to see it through or not.
