I would answer with - A Lot™. The World Wars also had a large chunk of influence on our modern day issues (particularly carving up areas based on lines on a map and not with respect to the communities actually living there)

That whole region, along with the balkans, has a very interesting shift in the first half of the last century to a nationalistic system which never really existed previously — it’s not even “line’s were drawn incorrectly” but “any lines would cause problems” IMO

As an example, see the mess and resulting population exchanges (would be ethnic cleansing today) between Greece and Turkey to make sure the right people were in the right country
